 Fly Casting Clinics

Annually the Art Flick Chapter of Trout Unlimited hosts a Fly Casting Clinic open to the public in cooperation with the Suffolk County Parks Department at their Southaven County Park facility in Brookhaven, N.Y.  The Clinic is FREE, but sign-up is required to insure that there is sufficient space, equipment and personnel on hand to accommodate a limited number of participants.  For 2017, the Casting Clinic is being scheduled for a weekend in September.  Please check back for actual date and details

The Chapter is fortunate to have a number of very knowledgeable & experienced fly casters, inclusive of an International Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor amongst the volunteer staff to assist participants with fly casting, all aspects of fly fishing, and its related equipment.  Beginners, novice and experienced casters are all welcome.  All fly casting equipment will be provided unless participants have their own equipment to practice on.  Note, Participants should bring some form of eye protection on the day.

The 2015 Annual Casting Clinic was held at Southaven Park on April 25th.  We had 35 participants registered to attend following a Newsday article >>>"Where To Go Fly Fishing On Long Island"<<<  written by Tom Schlicter about fly fishing instruction that same week.  Several families including women, boys and girls were registered.  The weather was cold and windy, and 15 die-hard students showed up to participate.  All seemed to have a good time and learned the basics of casting a fly rod.  I hope to see some of their smiling faces at the May Chapter meeting.
