OUR NEWEST PRESIDENT'S LINE...

Welcome to the Art Flick Trout Unlimited Chapter’s 2018-2019 sessions of meetings, events, projects and its ever expanding voice in environmental and educational issues within our community.  We also have a great line up of speakers booked for our monthly meetings that will cover a wide variety of topics.  I look forward to my leadership within the chapter and as with past presidents will always involve you, the membership, as a partner.

My thanks go out to the board and general membership who participated within several important projects accomplished this summer.  Special thanks to Tony Ertola for his leadership in accomplishing the completion of the wing dam within the Carmans in Southaven Park. Our first meeting is 6 days away on Tuesday Sept. 11th.  We meet at the Brookhaven Town Center in Bluepoint, N.Y.  Directions are posted within the mailing page of the Red Quill.  Hours are 7 to 10PM.  I look forward to welcoming you, so come on down enjoy a hot dog, good conversation, like minded comrades and you always welcomed to bring along a friend or two.

Tight lines,
               Paul Puma

  ***STREAM IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY...

June 14, 2018
Reported by: Tony Ertola

Your tax deductible contributions at work…

Four coir logs were installed today by AFTU volunteers at “The Island” in Southaven County Park between blinds 11 and 12. The log diverter that has been present for a great many years had deteriorated to the point where the river was flowing over and through it rather than being diverted into the small pool on the opposite side of the island. The installation of the coir logs immediately improved the flow through the pool. The additional benefit of the coir logs is that they will trap seeds floating down the river and vegetate with native plants and trees. This will provide shade and protection for the brook trout from predatory birds.

With additional contributions we will continue to improve the habitat for our native brook trout on the Carman’s River.
