Hot Wire Prince

Submitted by Richard Haimes

This Winter I came across a very nice variation of the popular Prince Nymph pattern, called the “Hot Wire Prince”. It has definite trout attracting properties, and is designed to be fished deep on the bottom where the trout often feed. I plan to try this pattern out this spring and I expect it should prove successful. Maybe you might want to try it out as well.

Hot Wire Prince

Hook/ size  Tiemco 3761 (Nymph hook 1X long) 12-18

Tails   Brown or Grey Goose Biot

Abdomen  2 Contrasting Colored wires (Hot Orange/Hot Red, Green/ Hot Yellow) small diameter.

Thorax  Peacock Herl

Wings  White Goose Biot

Legs   Brown Hen Hackle

Head  Tungsten Bead

Tying Instructions

  1. Place Tungsten Bead on hook.
  2. Wrap thread mid shank and end at the bend.
  3. Attach 2 Goose Biots at bend for the tails.
  4. Attach 2 contrasting colored wires at bend and wrap together creating an alternating color segmented abdomen.
  5. Attach 2 White Goose Biots facing forward and beyond the eye of the hook.
  6. Attach Peacock Herls mid shank and wrap to create a thorax.
  7. Fold back the White Goose Biots over the thorax to create the wings.
  8. Attach a soft brown hen hackle behind the Tungsten Bead and wrap to create legs.
  9. Whip finish fly behind the bead.
  10. Catch trout!
