Home Seeking A Next Generation...

SEEKING A NEXT GENERATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS

AFTU BOY SCOUTS/GIRL SCOUTS COORDINATOR Michael Barger has been busy working with both of these organizations to coordinate or facilitate programs which seed or support a potential new generation of Environmental Stewards for the waters & fisheries that are so dear to us. Mike was delighted to be approached last year by a young man by the name of Aiden Donnelly who was already heavily engaged in Eagle Scout Projects focused on protecting the natural environment, and in need of outside support to sustain his merit work.

Reading Aidan’s written word to Mike on his project work’s intent is a bright torch for other members of his generation to follow in caring and working to leave a positive footprint on the Planet by Conserving, Protecting & Embracing the surrounding environment.  We hope more of Aidan's generation share his spirit for the Planet, and are also supported by their parents in such endeavors.  We share Aidan’s letter and images of his recent work in the Southaven County Park… Congratulations Aidan... well done!

Last year, Mike coordinated AFTU’s first Youth Program with the Girl Scouts of America at their Camp Edey facility in Bayport, N.Y. with some 75+ young girls participating. As a program focused on introducing and connecting the girls with activities associated with the outdoors and natural environment, the Program included Fly Rod Casting, Tying a Fly, and Fishing the Fly on the adjacent lake for Blue Gill/Sunfish.

AFTU is thankful for Mike’s work & effort as one of its Youth Program Coordinators, and we hope that the membership will continue to support this important work. It’s fun, rewarding, and an investment in both the near & distant future of Conservation.  So, don’t hesitate to volunteer and “Help make a difference!”  Mike is busy developing and implementing 2019 Plans, and always welcomes helping hands...
